We learned at our daughter’s most recent doctor visit that she is referred to as an “Obligate Nose Breather.” Essentially, this means that at this time our daughter doesn’t know how to breathe through her mouth. As our doctor put it, “if you were to pinch her nose, she would turn blue.” This is also why babies are so miserable when they are sick with a cold or anything that blocks the nasal passage. It seems to also be the reason why she grunts and makes funny noises when expelling air. Fortunately, we have been equipped with a mini-turkey baster that can vacuum the most troublesome of nose goblins when we need to.
